Cirith Ungol is a fortified pass through the Ephel Dúath near Minas Morgul, and a possible location in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

The tower was initially garrisoned by Men of Gondor to guard the pass, until Gondor was hit by the Great Plague, killing much of Gondor's population. This caused them to withdraw their men guarding Mordor, including those in Cirith Ungol. Even though Gondor garrisoned the fortress once more after the Plague had passed, they were too distracted by raids on their lands to maintain control, allowing evil to occupy the fortress.

In Sindarin, Cirith Ungol means "Spider's Cleft".
